my opinion may not be shared with most critics, but I liked this movie

I am fully aware of the fact that most film critics here in the United States did not approve very highly of the 1999 Denzel Washington film "The Bone Collector". But despite the fact that only twenty-eight percent of them would agree with me, I think that "The Bone Collector" is a well-made mystery thriller with solid performances, especially toward Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie, a good plot, great tension, and a well-executed story.

Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington plays a quadriplegic detective who is asked to help with an investigation dealing with a serial killer operating in New York. He appoints a rather reluctant female detective played by Angelina Jolie to lead the investigation outside his hospital room since he cannot walk himself. He communicates with her through radio, giving her hints and tactics as they try to figure out who the killer is, who he will strike next, and how they can stop him.

Yes, this plot is one that has been reused many times and this yet another case. But just because you reuse a plot does not mean the end product is going to be horrible and not entertaining. I myself enjoyed "The Bone Collector" and did not find one scene where I was bored, even though I had a pretty good idea on what was going to happen next. It gets a strong rating for its performances, action scenes, and good general entertainment value.

The Bone Collector

The best keepsake to take from your murder victim is cash, credit cards or their car.

But for some reason the stalker in this crime-thriller collects worthless bone shards.

Beat cop Donaghy (Angelina Jolie) pairs with a paralyzed forensic expert, Rhyme (Denzel Washington), to find a serial killer who extracts bone fragment from their victims as a souvenir. The duo concludes the perpetrator is a cabbie with a criminal record and a connection to Rhyme's work in forensics.

Unfortunately, Donaghy, Rhyme and his caretaker (Queen Latifah) don't realize just how close the Bone Collector is.

While the mystery isn't as earthshattering as hoped, this first and only installment in author Jeffery Deaver's Rhyme series does feature inexplicable chemistry between the unlikely leads. In fact, this intriguing subplot supports the film's formulaic construction.

Incidentally, the best way to prevent future serial killers is to execute every nice, quiet guy next door. Yellow Light

A very good murderous thriller

A cop with a fully crippled body but a brilliant mind recruits a younger and talented female police officer in order to solve a very complicated case of a serial killer who intentionally leaves clues at his crime scenes. They must put together all the pieces of the puzzle in their attempt to stop the criminal mastermind before he makes his final move.

It's a tense and thrilling crime movie featuring elaborate puzzles which can only be solved by a team working in full harmony, which isn't the case from the beginning, solving this issue proving to be the missing link in their investigation. It is enjoyable and somewhat unique regarding its crimes but I was a bit disappointed by its finale, the unveiling of the killer's motive and his apprehending leaved a lot to wish for. It's a very good movie overall with a pair of very good actors and an interesting story.
